Paw Prints
When one has cats there are certain sacrifices that must be made. For example, we have a nice coffee table that doubles as a display case but we have to keep it covered or this happens:
As I write this it occurs to me that I took this photo during the summer, which is our rainy season here in Florida. The cats would go out on our screened patio, get their feet wet and then come inside and climb over our furniture. Perhaps I will take the cover off and see what happens.
Update: I took the cover off and now have paw prints everywhere. It appears I was wrong. Imagine that.
What’s For Dinner?
No time to write this morning so I thought I’d post a photo of our cat Puck being nosey.
Oh boy! It smells like chicken.
Forgotten Photo
In my last post, I included a number of photos of our cats, Chris and Puck, playing while Rose and I were wrapping Christmas presents. Somehow I managed to miss one of the pictures so I want to include it here.
Next time I will try to pay more attention.
Photo Friday: Wrapping Presents… With Cats
We have been collecting Christmas presents in the spare bedroom for several weeks and Wednesday Rose decided it was time to wrap them. Of course, Chris and Puck agreed that wrapping presents was a wonderful idea and did what they could to participate.

The Future Former Chris
Last night Rose and I were watching television and Chris was chewing on the power cord for the Christmas tree lights. We yelled at him to stop so he then started chewing on one of the light bulbs… while it was plugged in. I had to pick him up and move him two or three times and each time he would give me a loud kitty yell and then go right back to what he was doing. It was like he was enjoying the negative attention.
Now I worry about leaving the tree plugged in while we are in another room. I’m pretty sure he only does it for the attention that it brings him but I still have to treat him like a small child. He is a four-and-a-half year old cat with the maturity level of a three year old child. At this rate, I’m going to mature before he does.
Photo Friday: Closet Cat
Since we have had Chris, there has been countless times when he has managed to get himself shut inside a closet. He just can’t resist an open closet door, even if it is open for just a few seconds. Usually we see him go in but not always. To make matters worse, he always manages to climb up into the darkest recesses of the closet. Now, when we leave the house, we do a cat count.
Hey! You didn’t count to ten! (Without the flash, he is hard to see up there.)
December Royalties to Chris’s Shelter
I decided to do a little extra good this Christmas and donate all royalties earned in December from my Kindle book, Bad Cat Chris, to the shelter where I found Chris. It is a no-kill shelter located near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina called Sav-R-Cats.
I was inspired by Gwen Cooper, author of Homer’s odyssey. When her new book, Love Saves the Day, came out in paperback, she donated 200% of the royalties earned for a specific time to Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary, Inc. I’m not sure I can afford 200% right after Christmas but I can surely give 100% to the shelter that gave Chris the opportunity to find a loving home.
The book sells for only $2.99 and my royalty for each book sold is about $2.07, in most cases. Any help that you can give, by either buying the book or spreading the word, will be appreciated by myself and by the kitties that you help.

Photo Friday: Putting Up The Christmas Tree (With Cats)
We purchased a somewhat unconventional Christmas tree the other day. It is a trio of palm trees that seemed perfect for a Florida Christmas. Yes, I used the word Christmas instead of Holiday, so sue me. I just looked out the window and the sky is not falling and, as far as I can tell, the apocalypse has not begun so I may just use it again.
When we started to put up our Christmas… tree (whew, the world is still here) Chris and Puck took a strong interest in the box and the tree.
Wow, something new to investigate.
Cool. An electrical cord. I think I’ll bite it.

I was a little worried about Chris chewing on the power cords but it seems the novelty has worn off. Now all that is left is the decorating.
What I am Thankful For
Today in America we celebrate Thanksgiving. It is a time to celebrate and give thanks for what we have. With that in mind, I would like to list some things I am thankful for:
- I am thankful for Chris. Even though he can be a big pain in the you-know-what, he gives us plenty of love and brightens our day with his antics.
- I am thankful for Puck. He reminds us what a good cat should be like.
- I am thankful for every one of my readers. I love writing and you give me a reason to keep it up.
- I am thankful for my parents. They made plenty of mistakes yet they were perfect parents.
- I am thankful that I was blessed with a son, in part, so that I may appreciate my parents.
- I am thankful that I live in Florida, where a cold winter day might require a jacket.
- I’m thankful that I am healthier at fifty than I was at forty.
- I am thankful that I still have my hair, even if it is whiter than it used to be.
- Most of all I am thankful for my wife, Rose, who not only puts up with Chris but also with me, which isn’t easy.
