Cabinets are a Gateway Drug

You may remember a post from last month when Frankie leaped from the counter to the top of the bathroom door. Before that he had figured out how to stand on the toilet and open the cabinet where our linens are kept. Once the door was open, he was able to jump into the cabinet, despite the awkward angle. I guess the thrill of getting into the cabinet was short-lived and he needed to set his sights higher.

The other day Frankie had let himself into the cabinet and our kitten Floki was going crazy with jealousy. Just to see what would happen (and to get him to stop crying) I put Flokie on the shelf above Frankie. That got Chris’s attention and he jumped on the shelf with Frankie. I decided it was time to grab my camera but Frankie had enough and jumped down before I returned.

Because nothing attracts a crowd like a crowd, Puck had to join in to see what was going on.

After giving Puck a whack or two, Floki redirected his attention to bigger and better things.

Getting into a cabinet might be the goal of some cats but others need more. Floki had much higher aspirations.

To stand on top of two doors is quite an accomplishment but Frankie did one door and Floki was not going to be beat.

“Ta-Da!” Mission accomplished! Now Dad had to get him down. Of course, he wasn’t happy about that and had to start over from the bottom.

Puck was content to be a bystander.

Since he started on the second shelf last time, he had a bit of trouble figuring out how to get back there. This is when mean ol’ Dad decided to pull funding for the expedition and cut the adventure short. What is a cat parent to do?

Photo Friday: Group Nap

It is always a pleasure seeing our cats sleeping together. Granted, they are not exactly “together” in this picture but I still like it. You may remember my Photo Friday Post from two weeks ago when I mentioned how difficult it was to get all four of our cats together for a group photo. Well, it is still true this week.

If anybody reading this has multiple cats, how many of them sleep together at the same time? Feel free to link to a picture if you have one.

Chris has always been the best lizard catcher in the family. I just don’t understand why he cant play with them outside.

Bad Cat Chris

Chris got out last week when I was bringing groceries in the house. When that happens, it is just easier to leave him out until I get everything in the house and then go get him. He spent the whole time eating grass and rolling around on the sidewalk until he knew I wanted him in. He then made me chase him. As he was running away from me a lizard caught his attention and he quickly caught it… Then he was ready to go in the house.

We are in the Cat Blogosphere Calendar of Cats

The new Cat Blogosphere Calendar of Cats came out a few weeks ago and, since we are in it this year, I couldn’t not order it. It arrived just before we went on vacation so I didn’t have a chance to look at it until this weekend.

I’m not a very organised person, which isn’t good for a blogger. I don’t write too many things down and some of my ideas for post get forgotten. I even forgot to post about Chris’s Gotcha Day last month. My original thought was that this Calendar would be a novelty and it would end up lost in a drawer but I think that I could actually find a use for it.

My first thought was that I could write down all the national cat days that seem to pass me by unnoticed until it’s too late. As I flipped through the calendar however, I noticed many of those days are already in there. I just have to write down things like Chris’s Gotcha Day.

This calendar was designed by Paula Gregg of Sweet Purrfections and Debbie Glovatsky of Glogirly desiged the cover. It is set up like a weekly planner and we are located at the end of June.

There are many of my blogging friends in this calendar as well but the list is long and I don’t want to mention some while leaving others out. There are also some blogs I have not heard of but need to check out.

Photo Friday: Pictures From the Cat-Sitter

My wife and I took our (grown) kids on a five-day cruise. When our ship returned yesterday morning and I finally had cell service again, our wonderful friend and cat sitter, Lynn, posted these pictures of our boys to my Facebook page. It was nice to see them before we saw them, if you know what I mean.

Bad Cat Chris

Working on a blog post can be quite a daunting task. It is not coming up with Ideas or finding the right words that are the biggest problem. The hardest part is seeing the screen or typing when a 12 pound cat is standing in front of you or lying across one arm and part of the keyboard. I’m sure many of you reading this can relate.

Notice the keyboard is pushed away because Chris was either stepping on it or lying on it.

Even writing this post has been a chore. My little assistant has done everything but actually help. He started by lying on my right arm, forcing me to push the keyboard away and type left-handed. I then moved him to my lap, which sometimes works but this time he jumped down and started biting my legs. He then got up and decided to help me type. He…

Floki’s Cat-Tunnel Adventure

To discourage Puck from pooping on the sofa, I put the cat’s tunnel on it, but didn’t expect Floki to suddenly become interested in playing with it.

Naturally, he liked being inside of the tunnel, peeking out the little window…

But he also liked hanging out the end of it.

It is a great place to stare at the ceiling while contemplating life.

A few strings don’t hurt either.

Even tunnel cats can enjoy a little sunshine.

When the fun is all over, the tunnel is a great place to take a nap.

The Baddest Cat You’ll Ever Love… or Not

Thankfully, Chris is much nicer towards Frankie now.

Bad Cat Chris

I have always found Chris’s bad behavior to be annoying but at the same time loveable, like a toddler that is more adventurous than most. Lately though, that bad behavior has gone from cute to somewhat mean.

I’m talking about Chris’s treatment of our newest addition, Frankie. No longer, it seems, is he the cute, mischievous child but he now acts like the ruthless corporate executive that needs to stay on top at all costs. Okay, that last part is a bit exaggerated, but he has put himself in a position of being “less lovable.” Rose has even used harsher words than that when referring to Chris.

I don’t want to imply that there is a war going on in our house. It really isn’t that bad. Most of the time Chris and Frankie can be in the same room without a problem, although they are by no means friends.
