It is hard to believe that Chris has been with us now for ten years. He is not as much of a “bad” cat now as he was in his youth but he is still a huge PITA sometimes. Now, for example, he is on my lap as I write this and is clawing at my face and chest trying to get me to pay more attention to him.
I decided to keep this post simple today since I have already made a big deal about many of his other gotcha days. This time I thought I would just find an early photo of Chris that I have not already posted on this blog. The photo below was of Chris and Tigger taken on December 3, 2009, less than three weeks after we adopted him.
If you haven’t read it yet, the following two posts talk about Chris’s adoption.
I don’t know what people technically consider to be “cat grass” but for the purposes of this post I would say any grass a cat eats is cat grass. It is not easy photographing a cat eating grass because they move too much but I think I captured Frankie going for a bite pretty well here.
This cute little gold kitten was at the Largo, Florida SPCA on Monday afternoon. Since they are closed to the public on Monday and Tuesday, he is likely still there if anyone is interested.
Volunteering at a shelter is hard work but someone has to do it.
A bookcase is too much for a cat to resist. I realized long ago that putting stuff on every shelf just guaranteed that something would be knocked off. Instead, I leave one shelf empty just for the cats.
Here, Floki is enjoying some alone time but I have seen all of our cats up there at one time or another.
I took out my suitcase the other day to start packing for our trip to Germany but Frankie immediately took over half of it. I didn’t mind since I didn’t plan on packing most of my clothes until just before leaving.
Eventually he fell asleep.
I know the technical quality of these photos is not great because of low light and a moving cat in the first two, but I don’t think many people will complain.
As a side note, we are leaving today and will be in Germany for about ten days. That is why I have not posted this week and probably will only post once more before coming home. We will be staying in Munich and Stuttgart while we are there. If anyone knows any cool day trips we can make, feel free to share it with us. We have some ideas but nothing set in stone.
Since I didn’t do a post for Rainbow Bridge Remembrance day, I thought I would post a photo of Princess taken in 2003. Here she is posing with my son’s pet guinea pig, Furball.
I actually have a lot of photos of Princess and Furball. You would think her instincts would make her want to eat him but she was more fascinated by him than hungry.
After her beloved cat, Pumpkin, died, my mother-in-law decided to open her home to another cat in need. This is Finnegan.
He is another ginger boy like Pumpkin but he is also not like Pumpkin. Just like all cats, he has his own personality.
I expected him to be shy around strangers and thought I would have to go look for him under the bed but I didn’t. Instead he came out to greet us. He is a very sociable cat but he is not a lap cat, at least not now. Perhaps when he is more comfortable he will be.
We visited twice since she adopted him. The second time I found him napping on the bed so he certainly feels right at home.
He is also not shy about blocking the doorway.
We brought him one of Floki’s mice to play with. I bought a bag of ten mice and still had a few left so we thought he might want one. He was mildly interested for about five seconds and then not so much.
Finnegan, or Finn for short, got his name because he looks like an Irish redhead. He is about three years old and was once a stray that was brought in after someone alerted the organization that he appeared injured or “beat up.” I don’t know all the details but he is far too friendly to be feral.
Another interesting thing is that he has no white on him anywhere. The tip of his tail is very light but not quite white. I don’t recall seeing a ginger cat with no white. I wonder how common that is? What do you think about Finn or about ginger cats with no white?
Chris is unique. That is why I started this blog about him. Many cats like attention but not many cats demand it as much as Chris does. And no cat that I have ever seen, other that Chris, wants to be hugged.
Maybe I’m wrong. Does your cat ever want to be hugged?
By the way, pay no attention to my disheveled hair and ugly glasses. I actually clean up nicer than that when I go out.
