Caption This: Printer Cat

Here is a post from November of 2015 for Throwback Thursday. Frankie seemed to have found a comfortable spot on top of our laser printer.

I thought this would be a funny picture to caption but I struggled with finding just the right words. I thought of “We’re out of cyan again” and “No! I said print the stats!” I did eventually decide on one that you can see here, but I’m sure this picture has potential for many funny captions.

Frankie Gets Burned

Yesterday morning, I just finished boiling water for the tea I was going to use in my homemade kombucha. I moved the pan off the burner and turned to open the tea bags when I heard a noise behind me. The thought of Frankie jumping on the stove entered my mind and I immediately turned around to see Frankie walking away, holding one paw up as if he was in pain. I tried to look at his paw but he ran away and hid in the cat tree box.

I didn’t want to traumatize him more by pulling him out so I waited. After five minutes he was out so I picked him up and asked Rose to check his paws while I held him. Fortunately, she didn’t see anything wrong but I thought a burn might show up later so I made a note in my head to check him that evening.

When I put him down he went out to the dining room and jumped on the table. There he held his paw up like there was a problem.

Rose blamed me for allowing Frankie to get on the kitchen counters. I blame Chris because, after years of struggling to keep him off the counters, he wore me down until I gave up trying.

I can’t really blame Chris, though, because I really need to be more forceful about discouraging Frankie from jumping on the counters, especially near the stove. This is the second time this has happened and I don’t want there to be a third. I think I assumed the first time would have been a lesson for him but apparently not.

Yesterday evening Rose checked his paws again and still saw nothing so Frankie got lucky. This time.

Our New Cat Bowls

As mentioned in a previous post, my wife broke one of our cat bowls. The new bowls I bought didn’t fit in the stand and turning the stand upside down was not the genius move I thought it was because the bowls slid off too easy.

I looked through the bowls on Amazon and found a two-bowl set that looked like a great replacement. (Keep in mind that the above link is an affiliate link so if you make a purchase I will finally be able to buy that beach house in Hawaii that I always wanted.)

The bowls look similar to Floki’s bowl.

Floki has his own bowl but it really is every cat for himself. I sometimes put Floki’s bowl on the table so Chris won’t make a pig out of himself and eat all the dry food. I have to stop doing that, though, because it annoys my wife.

As soon as I put food in the new bowls, Frankie and Chris were there eating it. I want to say they liked their new bowls but I’m sure if I put food in a garbage can lid it wouldn’t matter.

The new bowls have a tilt to them. I wasn’t sure what the tilt was for until I read the description: “Tilt Angle Design – Keeps food piled nicely or falls to the center, prevent cat food from pushing off the bowl and keep the eating environment clean.” I’m sure this was written by someone who has been studying English for well over a week. In any case, I got the idea. It is designed to keep food in the center and it seems to work. Check out the difference between Floki’s bowl and the two tilted ones after the cats were done eating.

I don’t know how this would work for wet food. I have a different set of bowls for their wet food.

These bowls are good in some ways because they are wide and shallow, which cats like, and there is a silicone outer layer to catch dropped food. The main problem with them is the food tends to get pushed against the edge where it is harder to eat. There is always food left behind so I collect the bowls and then combine the food into the center of one of them. Usually, Frankie will come back later to finish it.

So what do you think? Does anyone else have tilted bowls?

A Nice Surprise

I walked into the Florida room yesterday, or as we call it “The Cats’s room,” and was surprised to see Floki and Frankie lying together.

Typically, this kind of closeness almost always involves Chris. Floki and Frankie love to play together but they rarely lie together.

The Food Bowl Delema

Several years ago I bought a set of cat bowls with a wooden riser. I found that the cats seem to like their bowls up off the floor a little bit. Unfortunately, while we were cleaning today, my wife accidentally dropped one of the bowls and broke it.

So I went out after we cleaned the house to look for another bowl set with the riser. I checked PetSmart and TJ Maxx. Both stores have them but all of them were either too big or the bowls were too narrow and deep. Cats like bowls that are wide and shallow. I did find a couple of bowls like that at TJ Maxx so I bought them, assuming they would fit in the riser that I already have. They didn’t.

It was close though. The bowl that I tried stayed put for about five seconds before dropping through the hole. It was that close. My wife said I should just put the bowls on the ground but I didn’t want to do that. I’m sure I spoil our cats but why have cats if you don’t want to spoil them?

I tried to think of things I could do to make the hole smaller or the bowls wider. After a little bit of thought the solution came to me. I don’t know why I didn’t think of it first. I just turned the riser upside down.

I will still keep an eye out for another bowl set, but until then, I will use what I have. If anyone knows where I can get a good bowl set made for cats, please let me know.

Photo Friday: Stretch

This photo was taken eleven years ago tomorrow on July 2, 2011. We visited my sister-in-law where I always get a bunch of good photos because she has so many cats.

Here is Holly, who is the original “bad cat.” We always wanted to take Holly home until we got a bad cat of our own.

I have made several Memes of Holly on my Just Fur Laughs blog, here is the one using this picture.
