Frankie’s Post Hurricane Idalia Walk

We live in Pinellas County, Florida, which is west of Tampa. As far as I know, a hurricane has never made landfall in the county, but we had some close calls. This was not that close, but we did get tropical storm force winds. Our house is under a large oak tree and we found it hard to get to sleep last night because every couple of minutes we would hear something dropping on the roof.

I got up at 5:30 this morning, and it was still raining and very windy. Despite that, Frankie would still ask to go outside every fifteen minutes. Finally, I had to say to Frankie, “Are you crazy? Have you looked out the window.”

Just before 10 a.m. Frankie became relentless. I looked out the window and noticed the rain had stopped, and the wind had reduced to a nice breeze. I couldn’t resist any longer and had to take him outside.

Fortunately, there was no noticeable damage to or near our house, although I haven’t checked the roof yet. The only evidence a storm came through were numerous twigs and branches on the ground, and my rake was blown into the yard.

So my record in Florida is 35 years and no hurricanes. Let’s hope I can continue the streak.

The other day, Chris was on my lap when he decided to jump off and onto the nearby shelf. That shelf has been exclusively Floki’s domain . . . until now.

It wasn’t long before he was napping there.

I don’t know if Floki came around later and found Chris in his spot. If he did, I am probably lucky I missed it.

Frankie Freaks Out

I took Frankie for a walk yesterday morning. Everything went well for a while. Then a man wearing a yellow vest freaked Frankie out. He was the driver of a truck that was about to pull a dumpster.  I don’t know why he was where he was but as he was walking back to his truck, he scared Frankie who started to run. I tried to keep up with him but he was faster than me and every time he reached the end of his leash that would freak him out more. I picked him up to show him that the man was not a bad guy but he wasn’t buying it.

He  Jumped out of my arms and continued running, but his leash was partly wrapped around his neck. When we got a good distance away I was able to stop him and unwrap his leash.

That was when the man started the truck which made a loud beeping noise and got Frankie running again. He ran me all the way home. When I walked in the door I was breathing hard like I just had a workout. I really need to exercise more.

That was when] Chris wanted to go outside. I let him out and he proceeded to go into the yard to eat a little grass. The garbage truck was still making noise but it wasn’t bothering him. After a couple of minutes, a truck drove past our house.

It didn’t even faze Chris. He just casually looked at it after a drove by.

On an unrelated note, I am almost finished with my first novel. It is not cat related. Sorry. I hope to have it available in less than a month. I will let you know more when I know. Right now I have a lot of learning to do in a short time.

Very often Chris will poke my legs with his claws because he wants me to pick him up and put him on my lap while I am sitting at the computer. If I am on the sofa he will do the same thing so I will pick him up and put him on the sofa. I know he is pretending to be feeble because when nobody is around he has no trouble getting up on his cat perch.
