Giving Thanks

Today is Thanksgiving here in the United States. It is a time to forget about what we don’t have and  be thankful for what we do have. With that in mind, I’d like to mention a few things I am thankful for.

I am thankful for my wife, Rose, who compliments me perfectly and is the Ying to my Yang, or vice versa.

I am thankful for my family; my son Chris, my stepson Nick, My mother Nancy, My sister Holly, My brother Matt and all my aunts and uncles, all of whom I am proud to call family.

I am thankful that I have a job that helps pay the bills and that I love where we live.

I am thankful that I’m healthy and wise. Wealthy will have to wait, but that’s okay.

I am thankful for all my friends, both old, personal friends and new, blogging friends.

I am thankful for two friendly, well-behaved cats, Puck and Frankie.

Last, but not least, I am thankful for Chris, who adds a bit of spice to our lives.

Here’s wishing everyone a happy and safe Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving

Judging by the smile, Chris must be thinking about turkey.

Photo Friday: Computer Repair Cat

My computer has been down since Tuesday . Thankfully, Puck was there to investigate the problem. Unfortunately he couldn’t fix it.

I think the only fix is to wipe the hard drive and start fresh but I hesitate to do that because I haven’t backed it up in over a month. For now I am using my laptop but my photos and graphics software are on the desktop computer. Maybe I can get Chris to look at it.

The Closet King

The other day Frankie tried to get into Rose’s closet. He managed to pop it open slightly but could not get it open far enough to get inside. It was a good effort but the door doesn’t slide easily so I couldn’t blame him for failing. That’s when Chris stepped in. I imagined him saying, “Move aside, let me show you how it’s done.”

We have a “woobie” blanket on a chair in the living room that Chris has taken a liking to. When he naps, we often see him on the blanket. Recently, Frankie has taken a liking to the blanket too, but not for napping. Instead he holds it in his mouth and kneads it. Often we come home from work and see the blanket pulled to the floor with part of it sticking up, most likely the part he was holding in his mouth.

Making Friends

Chris is still hard at work trying to turn Frankie from an enemy to a friend. I am happy to say he has made significant progress these last few months. It is Chris’s behavior toward Frankie when we adopted him that turned Frankie into an enemy and it is now Chris’s behavior that is slowly turning him into a friend.

I was surprised and disappointed in Chris’s attitude when we brought Frankie home but now I am very proud that he is trying to be friends. Just like in the human world, it takes many good acts to erase one bad one and Chris has worked for many months to erase weeks of bad behavior.

They have been laying close to each other for a few months lately but not too close. last week I saw them both napping with Chris’s head against Frankie’s back. I tried to get a picture but my movement woke them up. The other day Rose saw Frankie give Chris a few licks on the head and I captured the two of them lying close together. Of course, Chris came to Frankie and not the other way around but the fact that Frankie didn’t leave is real progress.

Fifth Gotcha Day

Five years ago today, we brought home a little ball of terror that would eventually steal our hearts while driving us crazy at the same time.

Here is a video of Chris exploring our home after we brought him home from the Sav-R-Cats shelter when we lived in Myrtle Beach. He did not hide under the bed like most cats, but instead, took over the house right away.

First photo of Chris at home.

Chris can be a difficult cat at times but I am so glad that circumstances brought us together and  I wouldn’t trade the experience for the world.

Was That a Purr I Heard?

Before I start this story. I want to mention a couple of unrelated things. First, I want to wish all American veterans a Happy Veterans Day and a big thanks for your service. Second, I want to mention Chris’s Facebook page got over 1000 likes since my last post. Thank you Ellen Pilch from 15 and Meowing for like #999 and Kjelle Bus Möller from Kjelle Bus aka Charlie Rascal for #1000.

Cat Chris on my lap

The other day Chris was lying on my lap and I was shocked to hear the faint sound of a purr. For Chris, that is amazing because he doesn’t purr. He tries to purr but it always comes out as heavy breathing.

The joke around here is that his purrer is broken but I’m pretty sure that what I heard was an actual purr. Could this be an early sign that Chris is turning into a normal cat? If so, he still has a long way to go.

Social Media Milestones

Bad Cat Chris Twitter pageFor a couple of years now, I have had social media pages for Chris on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and YouTube. I tried to keep up with them but, except for YouTube, I did a very poor job, so I turned the first three over to Chris.

Surprisingly, he took the task and ran with it. On Friday he got his 500th follower on Twitter (Thank you Jan ). Today he is two likes away from 1000 on Facebook. If anyone reading this hasn’t liked Chris’s Facebook Page, it would be nice if one of his blog readers put him over the top.

Google+ is another story. He only has eighteen followers there but hey, two out of three ain’t bad.

Photo Friday: Who Moved My Bowl?

The weather here has finally started to cool down so recently, Rose and I decided to eat dinner on the patio. To make room on the table, we set Frankie’s bowl on the floor while we ate.

Frankie just didn’t know what to think about that. He climbed inside the bowl and just sat there, like he didn’t know what to do next. Eventually he decided it just wasn’t the same way down on the floor so he got out and went into the house.

That’s My Lap

Some say cats don’t feel jealousy but I don’t believe it. Chris shows every sign of being more jealous than almost any human I know.  A good example of that would be when another cat lies on my lap. If Chris sees that, he will immediately get on my lap too and he always places himself between me and the other cat.

The good news is that Chris is not mean about it. It’s not like he caught his wife with another man. It is more like he caught his wife with the last bag of potato chips and he wants her to share before they are gone.

By the way, my blog post about my vacation is finally out. If anyone is interested, click here.
