How Domestic Cats Fight

We all know that when outside cats fight, it can get brutal, but what about when inside cats fight? I don’t know about all inside cats, but at our house, it’s pretty tame. The exception would be the early fights between Chris and Frankie when Frankie first joined our family, and one other fight a year or two later between those two. It was so bad that we had to separate them between a closed door.

Other than that, fights at our house are more like roughhousing. Sometimes it seems they are fighting in slow motion. For example, here is Frankie and Floki last night.

Do your cats fight? If so, how do they fight?

Floki sure seemed to want that bed space, yet not up to really fighting for it … that was not WWF action by any means. When we had “two”, it was the smaller, second to arrive who was the dominant one, the fighter of the pair … though mostly a hissing-match as they tended to be like ships passing in the night.

With my cats, it’s more like duck and cover. One jumps and the other runs and then a chase ensues…it’s hilarious to watch.

I loved how Floki was kind of nonchalant about trying to get a good spot on the bed, but Frankie wasn’t about to give in either. I thought when he got his nail caught in the collar that perhaps it might escalate but nope, LOL!! Cute to see them having a half hearted ‘fight’!

This looks more like a friendly debate but with paws instead of words. When Dansig the Round was alive, he and Link Linker the Stinker would “wrassle” and it could look serious, but never really was.

Frankie and Floki’s are funny to watch sometimes. Besides the slow motion fighting they also Chase each other around the house. We will see Frankie chasing Floki in one direction and then we will see Floki chasing Frankie in the other direction.

Mine fight like that a lot. Rusty and Rudy like to break it up by chasing up and down the steps. 🙂

Maybe “wrestling” rather than “fighting” ?? Their way of playing together maybe and as long as nobody gets hurt (badly) it’s good exercise. LOL

That is pretty tame. We get in some tussles occasionally where Mom has to yell at us to calm down. It is usually Kizmet and Raleigh who will begin by “wrasslin’” that escalates. XOCK, angels Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta & Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy, Sawyer, Kizmet, Audrey & Raleigh

When Sgt Stripes joined the family, Snoops and Kommando Kitty were not thrilled. He was staying upstairs and they were downstairs. The first time he came down he made a beeline for Kommando. She was a very timid cat and ran. He chased (we think he was trying to play). Snoops took off after them. He cornered Kommando downstairs. Snoops jumped on his back and made him back off. We don’t think Snoops ever forgave him. It’s been three years, and she tolerates him. She finally stopped hissing every time she sees him.

That’s a long time. Chris treated Frankie bad for a month and then decided he wanted to be friends. Too late. It took Frankie six months to get over the bad treatment from Chris.

It was. Snoops considered Kommando her kitten, and she thought Sarge was going to eat her. We had just gotten Snoops from the Humane Society after she had given birth when 4-week old Kommando was left in our yard. They’d been together almost 10 years when Sgt Stripes showed up outside
