Tolerating the Child

Happy New Year everyone. We hope you all enjoyed your holidays and wish you the best for 2023.

I hurt my back the day after Christmas and am still in pain six days later, although, I am getting better. Before I hurt my back, on Christmas Day, we enjoyed a visit from my son, his girlfriend, and the always entertaining grandson. Apparently, a few days earlier, his mother trusted someone to cut his hair that obviously didn’t know what she was doing.

Brayden is an active young man who turned three in October. Floki does not like the disturbance caused by the presence of a child and spent most of the time hiding. Frankie kept his distance and hung out on the bed. He gave Brayden a hiss or two when he got too close. Chris, on the other hand, gracefully put up with him.

I removed the audio but he was being instructed to stop almost the entire time. You can see where he was made to turn over his instrument of torment, only to go find another one.

Later, my wife showed him our slot machine, probably to distract him. I spent time with him while he fed quarters into the machine.

He would put two or three-quarters in before pulling the handle. I tried to explain that he was wasting his money to no avail. He did win the second-highest jackpot twice so I probably should have just shut my mouth. At one point, he had a hand full of quarters that he dropped into the machine, one at a time. While he was feeding them into the machine, he was counting. He made it all the way to fifteen before running out of quarters.

It has been a while since I raised a child but is it normal for a kid that age to be able to count to fifteen? I assume he could have gone higher if he had more quarters.

Happy New Year to you all. I’m so sorry about your back! I hope resting has given you some relief? Louis Catorze would have loved playing with Brayden. He loves kids, although not toddlers. He is very clear about that.

Thanks. It keeps getting better and then worse again. Today it is better than yesterday. Thankfully I was off work all week but have to go back tomorrow. Handling a toddler is not easy for any cat, or person.

Ouch on the injured back…..hope that doesn’t last long. Poor Chris – he was so patient while getting banged on the head – your grandson is adorable (oh that hair!) but whacking a cat endlessly (even a PATIENT cat) is just not a good thing. LOL

Sorry about the back! I feel your pain (mine was shovelling snow though). Sending healing purrayers.
May the good times and treasures of the present become the golden memories of tomorrow. Wishing you lots of love, joy, and happiness. Happy New Year! Keep Being awesome!

Your grandson is adorable. Chris is a really good boy. My Joanie is tolerant like that of the little ones. The others usually hide. Last night, there was a scene on tv with a little girl talking and most of the cats went flying. They must have thought my great nieces were here. 🙂 Hope your back feels better soon.

I’m so sorry to hear about your back and hope it is better soon! Wow that hair lol. I’m with Pam above. I think Chris was INCREDIBLE with the little guy (when in October is his birthday? Mine is October as well). I could tell throughout the video that someone had to be telling him to be more gentle. I didn’t like the banging on the head thing either (as Pam didn’t). One day if he does that to the wrong cat he might be sorry. His parents should work with him on learning to be gentle. Happy Healthy New Year!

I am pretty sure his birthday is the sixth. He lives mostly with his father and his girlfriend but he is with his mother on weekends. Neither has a cat but the mother has a fairly big dog. Perhaps someone should get a cat so he can learn how to behave with them.
