Chris has always been an unusual cat, which is why I thought he would be a good subject for a blog. One thing that makes Chris different from most cats is his fearlessness. You may remember posts about his indifference to the vacuum, or the post about him watching fireworks with us.
Last week my wife told me about something that happened while I was at work. She said one of those bucket trucks pulled up and a man got in the bucket and proceeded to trim the palm tree next to our house.
The noise freaked out Floki and Frankie, who came running into the house from the Florida room. They were both very nervous as they listened to the noise coming from outside. But Rose did not see Chris so she got up to check on him and was surprised by what she saw.

Chris was sitting on top of his crate, less than ten feet from the tree, watching the man trim the palm fronds.
If someone else has a cat like Chris, I would love to hear about it.
Gotta love Chris! I imagine after the work is done, the guys look at Chris, they exchange high five’s and go onto the next job. 👍
At the first rumble of thunder, three of my cats calmly walk from wherever they are and hide under our bed.
That is typical for a cat. When Chris was younger and we would have a stranger come into our house to repair one thing or another, Chris would literally get on top of them while they were working.
I have a cat like Chris!! Roary!!! Roary isn’t bothered by the vacuum, thunderstorms or fireworks either. Levi is way too rough with him and he stands right up to him and beats Levi’s face in (and I encourage it! lol). I have yet to find anything that Roary is afraid of! WTG Chris!
Maybe fighting with Roary has toughened him up.
Giulietta was never bothered by the vacuum, and I am training the kittens not to be. Most don’t like the sound of the garbage truck. They all have their own fears I think, much like humans. Good for Chris being fearless; though, we all know that can get a cat into all kinds of trouble. Chris certainly got into his share of trouble. Now he has mellowed in his old age.
My Drake and Joanie are fearless with noise, but that is because they are deaf.
That would certainly help as far as fear of noises go.
Raz and Reesie don’t mind strange or loud noises. Everything bothers Noelle.
Two out of three is good for cats.
The mom wishes I was more fearless like Chris. ~Ernie
Every cat is lovable in their own way.
Brave Chris! Years ago, before Brian, there was Moses, he was like that too and he even loved to watch fireworks…he was an orange dude too.
Maybe it’s an orange thing. Frankie is not quite as brave as Chris but he is also not bothered by the vacuum cleaner.
He is quite the character…
To say the least. 🙂
My two love watching the garbage truck from third floor windows. But it’s only Merlin who runs up to meet a stranger. And both hide from the vacuum. Together 😁
I’m sure they learned that the garbage truck is no threat.
Teddy’s only big freak out fear is loud thunder. Any other noises he will look at me immediately and when I say “it’s OK” he goes back to whatever he was doing. He’s a lot more “brave” than Angel Sammy was……….Chris is mellowing with time – that’s a good thing!
Hugs, Pam
Chris was never normal though. Even at six months old nothing scared him.
Someone has to supervise.
We call it snoopervise. 🙂
Obviously, he felt the workers needed supervision. 🙂
Of course.
My sister when she was little hoovered our cat. To this day, when we pull out hoover, the cat runs away 😀
The cat learned “Vacuum Bad” in a way that is hard to forget.
