Each of our cats has his own special gift. Chris is highly intelligent, Frankie is exceedingly cute, and Floki can read minds. You read that right and I am not exaggerating. It is the only explanation for what I have witnesses again and again.
Floki
These mind reading skills were very apparent a couple of years ago when we tried to trim his nails. Later, when we gave up on trying to trim his nails, his psychic abilities would kick in when we wanted to bring him to the groomer to get his nails trimmed.
A recent example happened last Friday. I brought his carrier in from the shed and set it on the dining room table. He was sleeping on our bed and couldn’t see what I brought in. I casually walked into the bedroom to check on him. He was still sleeping so I pretended to get something out of the bathroom so he wouldn’t get suspicious and then walked back to the dining room.
I asked my wife to follow me into the bedroom with the carrier. My plan was to scoop him up, turn, and drop him into the carrier before he knew what hit him. It was a good plan but the instant I appeared in the doorway Floki jumped down and under the bed he went.
A little while later we heard Floki whining and saw him under the dining room table. Chris had him by the back of the neck and was holding him down. Chris used to sometimes do this with Puck and now he does it with Floki. Unlike Puck, Floki will make a big fuss until someone comes to rescue him.
It always seemed strange that little Chris could hold Floki down better than two grown adults but, at this place in time, that was a good thing. I thought I would grab him from Chris and put him in the carrier that was right there on the table. As soon as that thought entered my mind Floki’s struggles intensified as he looked in my eyes with fear on his face. By the time I got close enough to touch him he had freed himself and was gone. That was the first time I ever saw him get loose from Chris’s grasp.
A couple hours later I saw Floki sleeping on the small cat perch in the Florida room. It was the perch closest to the door so I thought I would sneak up on him and grab him. I quietly moved the carrier to the back of the sofa and came around the corner ready to grab him but he wasn’t there. I turned to look for him and saw him just before he ducked behind the sofa.
I have walked past him a hundred times since then but Floki has pretty much ignored me. The only difference is I have not thought about bringing him to the groomers since they closed on Friday.
What do you think? If he is not psychic, what is his secret?
he was a god once like all cats… and gods can do everything…. Phenny is such a psychic pup too… I told mark with a normal voice to look for the cleaning wipes for phennys ears… and the pup jumped up like a rocket and disappeared LOL
Maybe they understand language better than we think.
They are masters of human behavior observation….you may THINK you’re being sneaky but they know the signs no matter how small they may be. LOL Teddy’s the same way – I swear if I even THINK about trimming his nails he’s nowhere to be found. Yep – maybe all cats are psychic – they really do have us figured out !
Hugs, Pam
I need to learn that trick. Imagine how far a human with that ability could go. 🙂
Oh yea, the kitties know, some better than others, but they know!
They are pretty amazing.
I think all cats are psychic…well, at least Ernie is. Like you, on a day he needs to go to the vet, I try to be as nonchalant as possible…but somehow he knows. It’s scary.
None of the books I read about cats talks about their psychic abilities.
He is reading your mind fur-sure. We always know when there is something afoot and that is because we can see the darkness in hoomans minds. Maybe, just maybe, you can flood your thoughts with giving Floki treats. Of course you have to follow through. (Floki we want a few of those treats ok)
That’s a good idea. It’s almost like a Jedi mind trick.
dood….we gotta stop reedin titlez sew fast coz we thinked thiz read physi N we thought we haz knot red a bout yur fizz eek ever bee fore….ya due look good tho dood…lean N all 🙂 ♥
No, that’s very different. You remind me of Emily Litella – https://youtu.be/fZLeaSWY37I. 🙂
Oh, he totally senses your stress over trying to get him in that carrier! Trying to fool him does not work… because you aren’t fooling yourself either! MOL
I thought I was a pretty good actor.
You are a smart kitty, F. It’s not easy to elude capture while your nails get longer and longer. But you are doing it! #youbeyou
Love and licks,
Cupcake
I guess if I wait long enough he will get stuck to the sofa and then I can catch him.
Louis Catorze can also read minds. He can work out exactly what it is that I don’t want him to do and then he does it.
That sounds psychic to me. 🙂
That is impressive. Maybe he could give you some winning lottery numbers 🙂
Wouldn’t that be nice?
He’s totally aware of the subtle changes of your body language, for sure ! Purrs
If that is true his intuition is exceptional.

We are very jealous of that talent, whatever it is. Purrs, Snoops and Kommando Kitty
I wish I could do that.
