I was looking through videos and came across one from December and thought that it was a perfect example of what happens around here just about every day. Usually Frankie and Chris get along pretty well but then, all of a sudden, there is a cat fight. This fight usually, but not always, has Frankie as the agressor while Chris defends himself while lying down.
I’m not sure how this lying down defense makes much practical sense but I am not an expert at cat fighting.

I’m not sure you could call that a fight! A tiff, perhaps? Obviously, Chris feels confident he can handle whatever Frankie dishes out.

Trying to make sure the pecking order is secure in the house can lead to a scrap or two!! One minute sleeping together – next minute hissing……never a dull moment with cats!

Before Frankie we had only one alpha cat and far less fighting.
I am surprised that Chris lets his belly be exposed.

Hee! Hee! Kozmo is the same with Jo Jo and Marv. They are both about the same size and smaller than he is. Perhaps size has something to do with it. Kozmo has gotten up and knocked them down if they don’t back off after a few minutes.
I’m sure Chris could be a problem for Frankie if he got up and threw his weight around.
This doesn’t really look like much of a fight. Mau and Cooper used to get into it every night while we were making their dinner. Neither of them took a “stance” by lying down. Chris just plain doesn’t want to be bothered with an altercation. I guess Chris is like the buddhist cat that doesn’t escalate the situation.

Yeah, that looks like more of a tiff than an actual knock-down-drag-out fight. Which is a good thing!
There seems to be a good deal of pre fight ceremonies.
I’ve seen Kommando fight from that position (In her case I’m sure it’s because she knows Snoops is too gentle to try to hurt her.)
I think maybe this is similar and Chris is not worried enough to get on his feet.
