For a cat, Frankie seems to miss a lot of things that you would think cats would notice. I mentioned in another post how he missed seeing a stray cat, more than once. I saw the cat and the cat saw us but Frankie was oblivious. It happened again the other day.
We walked past the house that is behind us and one over, which is a corner lot. Frankie was busy sniffing plants and didn’t notice the cat watching us from a screened patio.

There were people inside the patio so I dared not try to get a better photograph.
We continued walking for a block but a dog barking and people talking loudly caused Frankie to reverse direction. We passed the house again with the cat, still unnoticed by Frankie, then walked behind the house toward our house. The cat moved to the back door and continued to watch us. This time we were quite close but Frankie never looked left.
Frankie wasn’t ready to go home so we continued on toward the pool area. Halfway there we came upon a snake. I saw it first. Frankie saw it too but not until several seconds later when the snake decided to retreat.
In Frankie’s defense, he is not completely oblivious to the world around him. He does seem to have an uncanny ability to notice squirrels. He also caught a rabbit once after he escaped. Besides other cats, he’s not very good with reptiles. Frankie could never compete with Chris when it comes to lizard-catching ability. Chris is also the snake catcher in the family.
Oh, I know that tubular body pose!

Sounds as if Frankie is relying on his other senses more, and a catโs peripheral vision isnโt that great. Other cat certainly spied Frankie though. He spied Frankie twice.
Cute kitty. Funny Frankie missed him. ๐
That would have been interesting if he saw him.
Frankie has his own special mission and he enjoys the moment!
That, he does.
We only see other cats at night around here. Teddy wakes me up if he sees a cat on our front porch that’s looking for a handout – the “night cats” know they can get a snack here. Teddy loves lying on the front porch and keeping a close eye on everything moving around our yard. Fortunately he doesn’t go chasing everything – just observes. We’re on a hill so he’s got a great vantage point.
Hugs, Pam
That is nice of you to give them snacks.
Frankie says that his mind is on higher things. ๐
He must be thinking about calculus. ๐
Cats have their own minds ๐ฑ
Yes, they do.
It’s interesting to read about Frankie’s behavior and how he misses certain things that you would expect a cat to notice. It’s also a good reminder to always be aware of our surroundings and keep an eye out for any potential dangers like snakes. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us, it’s always a pleasure to read your posts!
Thanks so much.
It’s amusing how Frankie seems to miss noticing certain things that you would expect a cat to be aware of. It’s interesting how his attention can be focused on other things, like sniffing plants. The encounters with the stray cat and the cat in the screened patio, which Frankie didn’t notice, made for an entertaining story. The delayed reactions to the snake added to the excitement. Thank you for sharing these amusing and intriguing moments with Frankie.
Thank you.
