Today is Black Cat Appreciation Day. We no longer have a black cat but I thought this would be a good time to remember the two black cats we did have. We lost both at a relatively young age.
Flash was the brother to Tigger.
We adopted both of them around September of 2005.
Sadly, Flash died around April of 2010. He was around for a few months after we adopted Chris but I do not believe I have a photo of the two of them together.
We adopted Puck as a kitten on September 15, 2012. He was the first cat we adopted after I started this blog.
Puck was mild-mannered and everyone liked him.
Puck had a lot of problems with crystals in his urine and was often at the vet.
Sadly, he died in February, 2018, on the nineteenth anniversary of my father’s death.
Who else has, or had, a black cat? Who wants a black cat?

What super photos………..you sure had some cutie black cats – I’ve never had a black cat – not for any reason other than opportunity. Usually I’d get a kitten from someone whose cat had kittens…..and honestly I love ALL cats.

Such gorgeous kitties all. We remember Puck. He definitely was well loved. Our humans had two black cats before any of us arrived here: Thelma and Twinkle. They too were well loved. Those are very beautiful black cats you had! Of course all your other cats are/have been beautiful too. We’ve had many black cats and many of other colors and patterns. I want black cats! I would seek them out if I was adopting from a shelter or rescue. Except for our very first cats years ago, we’ve adopted found cats from the “streets”. (Always checking to see if there was an owner). I see many advocating for and seeking out black cats today. But overall shelters report that it’s hard to find adopters for black cats.
Since I volunteer at a shelter (or at least did until my part-time job turned full-time) I like to see the black cats get adopted. I would sometimes steer people toward a black cat that I knew was friendly but maybe had been there longer than average.
We remember dear Puck and his problems. Both he and Flash wanted me to say how much fun we are all having at the Bridge. Never a dull moment, a missed jump or lost treat here. Toby our house panfur is doing great and celebrated today. Purrs friends

Black cats are just cats but I root for them because they have a hard time being adopted.
Really? Why?
Different reasons. Some people are superstitious and think they are bad luck. Others think they are connected to witches. Still others think they are less cute or don’t photograph well so they are not good enough for people addicted to Instagram. It does take skill to photograph a black cat but that is a dumb reason to not adopt one.
Oh, goodness…how awful. An ex of mine had a black kitty when we were dating. Sweet thing but, he was sick. He passed a couple of weeks after we met. I wouldn’t have a problem with a black kitty…😍
I have seen many wonderful black cats at the shelter where I volunteer.

Me too. They are like underdogs, or undercats, because people underestimate them.
Puck and Chris together sure reminds me of Wally and Ernie together.
I remember thinking the same thing when Wally was with us.

Thanks, We did too. Flash was very shy but sweet. He would only come to me except once, when my mother was in town for a visit, we caught Flash lying on her lap. This made my wife very jealous. 🙂

It’s funny. I’ve always thought that black cats were beautiful, but I’ve never had one. We got Snoops (a cali) for my husband after his cat died, and Kommando (white and black) jumped in the window well. I’ve spoiled them to the point that I don’t think another cat would be welcome.
Everyone has cats for different reasons. Often they are unplanned. I think adopting any cat is a good thing. I just hope that people will not pass over a black cat simply because of its color.
