The other day my Echo device was flashing yellow which means I have a notification. I said “Alexa, what’s my notification?”
She said, “One new notification for Rosemarie. Your package with Google Home has arrived.”
Google Home? That’s weird. I couldn’t imagine my wife ordering Google Home. I was also pretty sure Amazon didn’t sell Google products. Nevertheless, I opened the door to see if there was a package outside.
There was no package but when I opened the door, Frankie ran outside. I went out after him and tried to catch him but he ran and hid under a nearby car. I had no shoes on and decided to go in the house and watch him from the window. He usually gets bored after a while and comes home.
I may have mentioned it before but I have ADD and I am easily distracted. Soon another thought entered my head and I forgot about Frankie. 45 minutes went by and I looked at the clock and noticed it was time to feed the cats and got up to do that. When I didn’t see Frankie I remembered he was still outside and quickly went to the door to see if I could see him.
When I opened it I immediately saw Frankie’s head pop up from under the door as he walked inside, scolding me with his meows the whole time.
I don’t know what went wrong with Alexa that day but perhaps I can use her next time Frankie gets out. “Alexa, remind me Frankie’s outside in ten minutes.”

Frankie is a huge pain. He is always crying to go outside but he also knows he has a good life inside and he doesn’t want to give that up.
I forget that other pets don’t open the door for themselves, so this was a fun peak into another lifestyle. Good to know that he knew to come home for dinner.
I still can’t just let him out whenever he wants but at least I know he will probably stay close to home.

He might’ve enjoyed that. I actually think he stays closer to home if I’m not trying to catch him.
Oh, I’ve done that with so many cats – over so many years ! The funniest – in hindsight – was when I forgot Snarky was outside. Then came a thunderstorm, with accompanying downpour.-and when I heard her yowling – with the doors and windows closed – I let in a very wet and indignant kitty. No harm done, thank goodness. Just so long as they get safely home.
My wife, as a teenager, got up in the middle of the night because her cat was bothering her to go out. She sleepily opened the door and the screen door but didn’t realize the screen door shut before the cat went out so the cat was stuck between the two doors the rest of the night.
We think that would be an excellent use for Alexa. 🙂

Thanks. He’s a pain in the butt but we wouldn’t want to lose him.
Dad has locked one or the other of us in the store room when we rush in and will not come out. Usually Rumpy or Einstein as they are snoopervisors. He gets distracted too and before long a mournful wail will remind him of who is not out and about. MOL
I got a new habit of doing a cat count before leaving for work to make sure nobody was stuck in a closet.
Ha!! Good task for Alexa to take on! So glad that Frankie was ok though!
