Fifth Blogiversary

Today marks five years since I started writing this blog. Time sure does fly when you are having fun. When I started I read that most blogs don’t last a year so I guess I am doing good.

When I look back, some things amaze me, like the fact that I wrote 693 blog posts. I know some of you are far ahead of me but for me, that’s an accomplishment.

I also have over 1700 pictures in my media library. Virtually all of them have been posted on this blog. You can almost say this is a photo blog with some words in it.

My most viewed post ever is “Are Ginger Cats Friendlier,” which doesn’t definitively answer the question but does show how many people are asking it. I will have to do me research on the subject.

My personal favorite post, it think, is “The Great Escape.”  It was one of my first posts and it really showed a bit of Chris’s personality during those early days.

My favorite picture is a tough choice.

Maybe it’s Tigger washing young Chris.

Maybe it’s Daredevil Chris

Bad Cat Chris on railing

Maybe it’s Chris sleeping on Tigger.

Maybe it’s baby Chris.

Maybe it’s not Chris at all, Maybe it’s Frankie . . .

. . . or Floki . . .

. . .  or Puck.

Do you have a favorite?

What I really enjoy about blogging is the wonderful people that I have met, or at least virtually met. There are over 10,000 comments on my blog and then there are everybody else’s blogs too. It’s hard not to feel like I am surrounded by friends. Hopefully, before another five years passes, I will be able to meet some of you in person.

Until that time, Happy Blogging.

Congratulations on the milestone……..it’s strange when we really do have a chance to reflect on just how much we’ve done with our blogs over the years isn’t it? It’s a long time to come up with something hopefully interesting to say and some hopefully interesting photos to post, etc………LOL……..your blog is fun to read – always. Here’s to many more!

Awww, love the picture of Chris sleeping on Tigger but Floki’s picture is a close second! Keep up the good work. Your cats are adorable.

One more thing. I think the cats markings and color are very much linked to their personalities. Striped cats are definitely friendlier and sweeter than most others – both gray and ginger tabbies. I have also found that tuxedo cats, whether black and white or gray and white are super smart troublemakers but also super people oriented. And the black cats I have owned are usually rather shy and timid. I don’t know why they are all classified as DMS – Domestic Shorthars as they are all rather different. Maybe because they are mostly mutts (mixed breeds). But I really feel that their coloring is indicative of their personalities.

When I first researched the subject, I could find no scientific evidence that fur color influenced personality but I did find plenty of anecdotal evidence in the form of people talking about their friendly ginger cat or shy black cat. For what it’s worth, I have had three friendly ginger or gold cats and two shy black cats. I also had a female tuxedo that loved people but did not care about other cats. I need to further investigate the science end of this.

Happy Anniversary, Charles! I can believe that most blogs don’t survive a year. My own experience was that I didn’t truly know what my point of view was, what direction I was to take, until I stumbled on the tagline “surviving retirement with two cats”. God knows there aren’t enough cat blogs! Ha! It helps to write about what you know and to do it on a regular basis.
