Another Water Fountain

Last month, my wife found an ad for a water fountain that she wanted to buy. She read to me all the great benefits of the miracle device. When she finished, I thought two things:

  • Since this information was from an advertisement, it must be true.
  • How is this product different from the other three water fountains we bought and our cats didn’t like?

I said the second one out loud, which didn’t go over well. She was determined to buy it so I told her I would look for it on Amazon. I very much would prefer to support a small business over Amazon, but, on the other hand, I worry about giving unknown businesses my debit card number.

The fountain in question is called FEELNEEDY Stainless Steel Automatic Pet Water Dispenser. The all caps are theirs. The link above is an affiliate link because, why not, but I don’t recommend it unless you know your cat is into water fountains.

It uses a battery and only runs when your cat is nearby, unless it is plugged into power and you choose the continuous run option. Frankie drank from it shortly after I put it down, The paper towel is because I spilled it when I set it down.

Since I replaced their water bowl with this fountain on March 20, more than two weeks ago, I’ve seen Frankie drink out of it four times, including once this morning. I’m not sure I should count this morning because the battery was dead and no water was flowing. During that time, I have seen Frankie drink from the water bowl in our bedroom almost every day.

Floki, on the other hand, has never drunk from the fountain, at least not that I have seen. That might not be the fault of the fountain since I haven’t seen him drink from the bedroom bowl, either.

For now, I will keep the fountain and see how it goes. What do you think? Do your pets have a fountain?

Have often thought of one for JUNE, but nowhere in my small kitchen can it be plugged in & no interest (by me) in battery-operated, assuming frequent replacement (maybe? maybe not). She’s not a big drinker anyway; usually just after her meals, and easy for me to fill with fresh water when I prepping her food. So, that’s it for us. Again: we have tiny, almost a half-kitchen, I’d probably trip over the thing … meowz.

I gave up trying water fountains with the cats. They just ignore them. But a battery operated one sounds interesting. I never liked that you had to plug in the fountain.

I agree. The battery is better than a plug as far as I’m concerned. The biggest issue is whether the fountain will get your cat to drink more water or scare him or her away.

I know some people have luck getting their cats to drink from a fountain but we aren’t “those people”……I’ve purchased two fountains before and neither was a “hit”…..I won’t be spending money on another one! Teddy drinks just fine from one of the three bowls of water we have (one on each floor) and I change the water and wash out the bowl every morning – it’s just part of my morning routine. Good luck with your new one!

I have a little table-top rock garden with a waterfall. Gypsy is using it as her personal fountain. We have extremely hard water (even with a filter), so the metal fountains get corroded pretty quickly. We have a plastic one with a flower that flows water in four directions. The cats love it.

Most of my cats prefer the fountains. We have several, 2 like yours. I prefer those because they are so quiet and I can’t sleep with the sound of running water.

My husband has trained our cat to drink out of the faucet, and we’ve played heck trying to get that to stop as he would leave the water on continuously and our bill was getting high. I’d get a fountain if it sounded like running water, as that seems to be what attracts Link Linker the Stinker to come get a drink is the sound, but all of them brag about how “noiseless” they are.

I’ve had 2 plastic fountains, and had to put them away, because Pipo thought it was a mini swimming pool. They did drink for it sometimes, and years ago our Toki loved to drink form the fountain, and when he became diabetic, (before we knew) he would drink it almost dry. When we actually realized something was very amiss, he was found, in a diabetic state with his head almost in the water…sigh…I still miss that guy so much. (He was not with us anymore when we started our blog, infact Pipo & Minko were 5 or 6 when we started blogging, in 2014)

Those metal ones I have seen look very nice. Maybe use them as a non fountain until they use them, then turn it on for short periods, before leaving it on full time.

Kitties Blue only have and they all use water fountains (even on the catio) and a couple of the newer ones are cordless (Cat Water Fountain Stainless Steel, 138fl.oz / 4.1L Cat Fountain, Pet Water Dispenser Cordless for Cats & Dogs Indoor on Amazon). The water delivery system is different. If we had one like you bought, Gibbs and Tali would be playing in it constantly. They both love and are fascinated by water. Good luck.
