When Mom made the trip from NJ to FL (many years ago) she was pleasantly surprised how well the kitties and woofies did.

Every few hours Floki let us know he wanted out. Not terrible, though.
He likely was thinking, if the peeps are not enclosed why am I?? Glad he is free now, as well as Frankie and yourselves. Being cooped up in a car even without being in a ‘cage’ is always stressful.
Considering his size he actually had more room to move around than we did.
