My wife and I returned from our vacation to Massachusetts and Maine on Saturday. We were glad to get home to our cats and Frankie was certainly excited that we were back. He has been ‘talking” a lot more than usual since we returned. The first thing I did was take Frankie for a walk.

Needless to say, he was happy about it.

My wife wanted to drive to the beach to see how the cleanup efforts were going after getting hit by two hurricanes. Things were far worse that I thought. We drove down some of the streets in Madeira Beach, and it was unbelievable. Almost every home had a large pile of trash in front of it.
We continued south until we reached our favorite beach, Pass-a-Grill. During the storm, a lot of sand was carried onto the streets. Most of it was cleared off the streets, but there were still several large piles in front of businesses. And then there was this pile and a similar pile nearby.

We also saw signs like this at the paths that lead to the beach.

Whatever was on the beach, it wasn’t your run-of-the-mill dangerous.
On the way home we saw this pile of garbage.

It was on some kind of park across the street from a condo development. I’m sure the people who live there are happy to see this every day. They must be trucking garbage here with the intent of moving it later. I would be surprised if this is gone before Christmas.
When we got home Frankie was more than willing to help us unpack.

The own home is the best. So your house had no damages, fine. Frankie looks so happy.
Frankie was stuck inside for a week.
Frankie clearly missed you. Such sad photos. There is a lot of clean up to do.
Yes. So much to clean up. We are so lucky that we live four miles from the beach.
What a mess. Frankie sure enjoyed that happy homecoming!
He was so happy. He is on my lap purring as I write this.
Frankie is definitely a happy cat.
He is now.
I hope you enjoyed your vacation, although it must have been hard while you were concerned about your cats back home.
It is difficult to leave them for such a long time.
It is why we bought a fifth-wheel and a truck. Our old poodle wouldn’t eat when we left him behind, and that broke my heart. So we found a way to take them with us. My son wants us to come see him while he’s living in England, and I will have the same problem with our new poodle puppy, who wouldn’t eat while we left him behind for a quick weekend trip for a family thing. We’ll have to take him with us as carry-on, I guess, or buy him a ticket…. Luckily our standard poodle will eat no matter what….
It would be so much easier to travel if we didn’t have pets but then what would our life be without pets?
Yup!
Frankie looks so happy to see you!
He was especially happy to have someone that could take him outside.
glad you are back with Your beloved furkids… wow the garbage heap … that looks horrible… we hope the clean up makes progress… and thanks to all who help….
Thanks. I still love Florida but my wife wants to leave the state after two hurricanes in a week.
I don’t blame her. I would want to leave too.
It’s going to take a long time to clean all this up. My heart goes out to all those having to deal with it.
I was back on the islands again today for my job. There is so much that needs to be done. I can only imagine many people will have to wait months just for contractors to have time to help them.
glad you had a nice time, I know the cats were buzzed happy to see mom and dad.
so much clean up; one has to wonder…where…all that stuff goes…it’s sad…
I saw a huge pile of garbage on the way to the airport. I think it was a temporary dump. Maybe because there were too many trucks going to the landfill.
Welcome home.
We’ve seen similar piles here after big hurricanes or flooding rains. It takes a long time to clear it all out and the homes are never quite the same.
All of you are in my heart and prayers.
Thank you.
Hope your vacation was perfect! The weather in Maine was fabulous wasn’t it. We got home yesterday afternoon. Nice of Frankie to help you unpack. Teddy was just happy to get back to “his” house and didn’t volunteer to help us with our suitcases at all! The clean-up of the results of the awful storms is almost overwhelming to see isn’t it. It will take a long time for things to get back to some semblance of “normal”……
Hugs, Pam
Being used to Florida weather, I found Maine a bit chilly but at least tolerable. I’m happy to be back in shorts. 😊
