Chris was always a happy-go-lucky cat. When we introduced Puck, he accepted him right away. We thought introducing Frankie to our home would go the same way. It didn’t. Chris immediately saw him as a threat and became aggressive towards him.
It took a while but eventually an uneasy truce emerged. that truce was fragile, and fights would often erupt.
After about a month, Chris decided he wanted to be Frankie’s friend but after his earlier behavior, Frankie wasn’t having it. It took several more months before their relationship became relatively okay.
When we introduced Floki to our home Chris was better behaved. I suppose a kitten is far less threatening than a full-grown male cat.
Soon, a sort of love triangle developed in our house. Floki liked Chris, Chris liked Frankie, and Frankie liked me. Sometimes, well, most of the time, Chris would get jealous when Frankie paid attention to me. I was never sure if Chris was jealous because I was paying attention to Frankie or because Frankie was paying attention to me. This usually happened when I was lying in bed winding down for the evening.
Despite his jealous moments, one of his best qualities was his affection for others, both cats and humans. I got so many comments from people who said they wished their cats got along like our cats did. The truth is, Chris was the main reason that happened. He was like the glue that held the other cats together.

Now that Chris is gone, I hope Floki and Frankie can learn to be close.

at the end they became buddies… its a relief when it works, even if it takes a while…
It was touch and go there for a while but I’m glad it worked out in the end.
I imagine the other cats are wondering where the heck Chris is by now….it’s a big adjustment for them AND for you and Rose. Chris was a definitely “presence” in every way.
Hugs, Pam
Yes. I wonder what Floki and Frankie are thinking. Floki loved Chris. I feel bad for him.
We have our own grief to deal with, plus the synergy of our furry family members too.
It is never easy to lose someone.
Those videos sure showed that special Chris and his welcoming ways.
He was not immune from jealousy but he did have a good heart.
That last video, especially, is so cute. Chris was a sweetheart.
I love that video. It makes me smile.
We’d only discovered “you and yours” a year or two ago, and are now getting to know Chris, sadly, after the fact. Even so it is a pleasure to learn about this amazing, charming and bad/good/bad boy and how much he meant in your life and family. What A Boy!
Thanks. I wrote a Kindle book about him in 2013 that talks about his early years. I started reading it again after all this time and noticed a bunch of errors, especially with commas, so I’m going to fix it and then offer it for free for a few days. Keep an eye out for that.
doodz….eye hope chris left ewe both a message that ya knead ta be besties, …itz hard
N yur prob ablee wunder in ….wearz chris ? it wood be a pawsum thing ta due for chris, ta be friendz 💙💚😺
I hope they get the message.
Raz was the glue that held us together too. Mom is still working on getting Reesie and Noelle to be pals.
I hope it works.
He was a very sweet kitty. How are your other cats doing?
They seem okay. I feel bad for Floki because he really loved Chris.
Unfortunately, there’s no way to really communicate what happened. One of my daughter’s cats had her buddy cat die. Then she made friends with the replacement cat who ended up with my daughter’s ex-husband. Poor Angel is still looking for a friend. (I think she and Snoops may pair up since she needs a replacement for Kommando.)
I hope so.
Sweet photos. Maybe Chris wanted to be the only ginger cat of the house. 🙂
I think he wanted to be the only alpha cat. Frankie can be a bit of an alpha.
Chris sure had a ton of ‘Purrsonality’!!
I wish I had known him better.
He was a hoot sometimes.
Great videos. Chris was a dynamic character.
He was special.
Funny how the mischievous one was also (mostly) the peacemaker.
Chris promoted love in our house. Mostly.
these all made me smile. You did such an incredible job honoring him and I LOVE how deeply you APPRECIATED him his entire life. Quirks and all!
He was such a loving boy it was impossible not to love him back.
exactly!! That’s how we feel about our dog, Levi. Levi is the most challenging dog I could ever imagine having, but he is also the most affectionate. We always say that’s what saves him lol.
Some alpha males can keep a comfortable peace, particularly as they age.
I think Chris and Frankie are both alphas which may be where some of the problems lie.
Most likely. Did you ever walk Chris on a leash like Frankie?
Briefly, but he liked to stay close to home so it wasn’t necessary. Frankie is a wonderer.
Interesting. Chris didn’t like to wander. Ollie is curious around the house (birds, butterflies, bees, flies…) but, he won’t leave the yard. He is such a house cat.
I’m also surprised Chris wasn’t a wanderer. I guess he knew where the good life was.
Oh, yeah…
