I think I inherited a nomadic gene. We are moving again and this will be my twenty-first home in my lifetime. Since 2007 it will be our seventh home and since adopting Chris late in 2009 it will be our sixth home. Chris is an old pro at moving but Frankie has only moved once and Floki has not yet gone through a move.
So far, everyone is fine. I think Frankie is actually enjoying the disruption.
Floki is also enjoying the moving boxes.
Chris is happy when I open a drawer to pack its contents.
Frankie is the most excited by the growing pile of boxes. Rose set a basket down temporarily until Frankie found it.
Now it is his favorite spot. We removed the uncomfortable pieces and now have it as a “crow’s nest” for Frankie to oversee the operation.
The reason we are moving is that we need a bigger place. We have been downsizing for several moves and now it is time to upsize. Unknown to me at the time, we bought a house that wasn’t prewashed and it has shrunk. It is no longer able to house all my wife’s clothes.
In addition to having more room, we are moving to a better location. My wife and I spend a lot of time at the beach, either at the beach itself or at one of the many great restaurants on the barrier islands. This home will put us closer to our favorite activities.
The bad news is that we are losing the catio. This will not be welcome news to the cats. Worse, the pet restrictions at the new place are more strict than here so taking Frankie for a walk and letting Chris out to eat grass could be difficult. We will try to figure out a way to add a catio to the new place but the side door is too close to the front so enclosing it will cause our driveway to be too small for two cars. Hopefully, we will figure something out.
we hope everything goes smooth and you will like your new home… it seems the cats are pro’s they all are well packed ;O)))
Thank you. I think they will be fine for a week and then they will want to go outside.
Definitely nomadic there! I wouldn’t be able to do that, I stick with places as if I have glue on my feet 😀
Looking at the first photos, Frankie makes a mad face. Floki makes a confused face. Christ couldn’t care less. 😀
So you move closer to the water again? I remember you liked that.
Our favorite place was when we lived on the water next to the marina. This is not as good as that but it is better than here and cheaper than living on the water.
Mom thought she had moved a lot in her lifetime with a total of 12, but we think you might get in the Guinness Book of Records with your total. None of us have ever moved once we landed with our humans. When our humans had dogs, they moved several times. Our humans have been in the same place since 1984. Mom hates moving and packing. Sorry you are losing the catio. We would be really miffed about that. Maybe you can find a park nearby where you can at least take Frankie walking. Good luck. We don’t envy any of you. XOCK, angel Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy and Sawyer
Thanks. I lived in one home from 1977 to 1986. That was my record.
All the best for you and your new home! The cats will adapt. They love you two and they will be happy to be with you two. Yes, a catio would be nice … maybe you can instead make the inside more cat appealing, making “cat walks” up on the walls? You know – those shelves cats can walk along and look at everything from a higher up place? And give up on house plants and only plant normal grass for your cats on your window sills.
Thank you. I did suggest ending more cat furniture and shelves for the cats when my wife poo pood the idea
Does your wife not like your cats? After all she gets a new home cos she cannot say goodbye to some of her clothing … Maybe it is time for a new wife? *just kidding*
She likes the cats but she also likes our home to look nice with no clutter. I don’t always listen to her and will probably get another cat tree and whatever else I can.
What is nice in a house without clutter? It looks clinical … out of an Ikea-catalogue (and even they clutter their showrooms!)
I agree with you but my wife was raised very differently.
I am sure the two of you have found a compromise already, it cannot only be ONE side to give in a little …
We always do. We have been married for 19 years so something’s working. I usually let her have her way in things that are unimportant to me but stand my ground and things that are important.
We hope all goes well with the move. Too bad about the catio. We hope you can figure something out for the cats.
Thanks. I hope so too.
We hope everything goes well for your move, and that the cats will enjoy their new home despite the lack of catio. Purrs
Thanks. I hope so too.
Moving is so exciting! Good luck! If kitties are anything like us doggies, they’ll roll with it and be adjusted in no time. Change is good…
Love and licks,
Cupcake
I think they will be fine. Frankie is the biggest pain in the butt about going outside (with Chris a close second) but they will have to adjust until we can figure something out.
You definitely have a moving record! I thought I’d moved a lot until I got married again and we’ve only moved once since then but you definitely are a professional mover. LOL I bet the cats will be happy with a new house to explore. How about some sort of “window exit” catio? Of course they’d have to learn how to ASK for access but hey – they are so used to having some outside time I bet you can come up with SOME way for that to happen. After all – you’re a professional mover! haha
Pam
We thought about having a door put in our bedroom so we can build a small catio but we need to see if it is feasible. Plus, after the expense of a newchome, we need to save money first.
I’m glad the kitties are enjoying all the extra boxes! I’m sure you’ll figure something out – you are moving pros by now! (My human moved to our current house in 2006, only her third place since 1997.)
Thanks, Summer. I am not worried. We will think of something.
I am so happy for you (and I am laughing at the comment about your wife’s clothes!), as for the kitties, they will adjust………..as you said above, you will think of something I am sure! Being closer to the beach and your favorite restaurants etc is a HUGE plus!!! Your photos are darling!!
Thanks, Caren. I’m sure this move will also give me me something to write about for a while.
I am too lazy to move. I went from my childhood home to my married home. Good thing we like it 🙂 Good luck with the move, hope all the kitties adjust well.
Thanks. Nothing wrong with staying put.
Bad Mr. Charles! No catio and no walks? We’re surprised your supervisor Frankie even signed off on the agreement. Sounds like this move is entirely for the benefit of the humans. Purrs, Snoops and Kommando Kitty
Chris is actually the boss around here. I only needed to bribe him with a few extra treats.
Good luck! Moving is not fun, especially if you have cats. Your cats seem to be very calm even though everything at home is in a wrong place.
Thank you. I mostly worry about Floki on moving day. I also worry if someone escapes in the new neighborhood. They might not know where home is.
Sounds like an adventure! Hope you’re able to figure out a new catio situation. Good luck with moving!
Thanks. I hope so too.
Hope the house moving goes well … and no one goes missing. 🙂
Thanks. All present and accounted for. 🙂
Nice post
Thanks.
