I want to re-share this story of Casper on Remember Me Thursday.® This may not exactly qualify because Casper was not stuck in a shelter. He had a home, but it was not a loving home,

I think writing about my cats helps keep their memory alive, perhaps indefinitely, which makes me feel good, but there is another cat, one who belonged to someone else, who I feel deserves to be remembered. I thought about Casper while reading a post on Rumpydog called The Damage That Ignorance Can Do. Part of the story was about people moving and abandoning their cat. It reminded me of how Casper was abandoned, not physically but emotionally. He had no home where people cared about him. I suppose I should start from the beginning.

What a sad story. I think, in a way, Casper really was your cat… he certainly didn’t belong to that family at the home where he was supposedly living. I’m glad you told us about him.
I think if we could have adopted him earlier, he would have made a great addition to our family.

Poor Casper! It stinks that his life had to end in that way. At least he did get a little bit of love and rest when he was hanging out with you. When the housing crisis hit up here in 2008, there was a flood of cats that had been left behind as their owners’ homes were foreclosed on. It was really sad and our area still hasn’t totally recovered from it.
Yes, that is sad. I don’t understand why they would just leave their pets behind. My wife runs apartments and she once found a cat in an apartment after people moved out with no food or water. Good thing someone came in to clean it when they did.
